At the highest position are the two consuls, elected every year among the nobles. Similar to the monarchs during the monarchy, the two consuls introduced the law, held the court, the army, and the country’s chief economic position. Their attire resembles past kings, purple robes and sit on the traditional chairs reserved for the king. However, their power was greatly restricted. First, they are in office for only 1 year, then can be re-elected or returned to their own lives. Secondly, there are two consuls, and this person can effectively prevent any decision or action of the other by veto. Third, consuls continued to serve at the Senate after the term ended, which made them dedicated to cooperating with the Senate.
